I don’t see what Paypal did so much as censorship as much as product-line selectivity. A business should have the right to determine what or what not they will sell. Then they should allow the market to prevail.

Thanks David. The tough part with free is that “sold” means downloaded, not a real transaction. And how many people download because it’s free versus how many people actually read it? Now sure maybe people will get to it someday and come back for more, but that’s a gamble. Who knows. I do think FREE can work in some circumstances, but in the entire ebook world, free is a killer. Indie movie people charge $20 for their DVD’s, just like Hollywood. Same goes for artists… they charge too.
This is art, and it’s business.
It’s hard to sell books no matter what. The key is to keep on writing and keep on publishing.

Can’t help wishing I’d written this, Jim. I put one of my books out free and shifted over 300 copies.Then I put a price on it and … zip. I don’t think anything one of those freebie “readers” read it. But I learned my lesson. The only freebies I give away are extracts and shorts on my site.

Yes, I keep looking at the calendar, with some trepidation. Just over four freaking days left!!?? Yike.

I have more to do on sketching out plot points, markers it would be good to hit. And I’m intent on better time management this year. We’ll see how that goes.

I wrote my book on how to write a book fast during Nano 2009. Write-a-Thon came out this year from writer’s digest books. This year I plan to do a novel.
